Carl’s Jr. is an American fast-food restaurant chain, which is mainly located on the west coast of the USA.

The first Carl’s Jr. Restaurants were opened by Carl Karcher in 1956 as a small offshoot of the Carl’s Drive-In Barbeque, which he founded in Anaheim in 1945. Carl’s Jr. currently consists of over 1000 restaurants in 13 US states as well as in Canada, the People’s Republic of China, Turkey, Spain, Mexico, Guam, Russia, Belarus, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, New Zealand, Brazil, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Denmark, France. The parent company CKE Restaurants also owns other fast food chains, including Hardee’s.

The start-up Beyond Meat, which produces vegan meat substitute products from pea protein, has won another important partner in the USA. The hamburger chain Carl’s Jr. is now offering Beyond Burger Patties in around 1,100 restaurants.

This makes Carl’s Jr. Beyond Meat’s largest restaurant partner in the USA to date. Carl’s Jr. decided to offer a vegetarian version of their own signature burger Famous Star: the Beyond Famous Star, priced from 6.29 US dollars. Alternatively, customers can order any burger at Carl’s Jr. with the Beyond Patty at an additional cost of $ 2.

In the USA, large chains from the catering trade (e.g. TGI Fridays) and retail (e.g. Whole Foods) already offer Beyond Meat products. Carl’s Jr. is one of the 50 largest restaurant chains in the United States, with system sales of $ 1.48 billion in 2017, according to Nation’s Restaurant News. A big competitor of Beyond Meat is the start-up Impossible Foods, whose Impossible burger is also available in many US restaurants.

Leading restaurant group, Beer & Food have incorporated the Moving Mountains® Burgers into their most reputable brand, Carl’s Jr .. The fast food chain known for their burgers is now selling the Moving Mountains® Famous Star Burger, a plant-based version of their classic Cheeseburger, the Famous Star, at all locations across Spain.
